Laura F DeCapua, LMFT
I graduated from Providence College with my undergraduate degree in psychology. I received my masters in marriage and family therapy from University of St Joseph in West Hartford, CT. While in graduate school, I completed my internship hours at Stafford Family Services doing family therapy, couples therapy, individual therapy with all ages and co-leading a substance abuse group.
Upon graduating, I worked for a local community agency doing intensive in-home therapy through a program called MST: Building Stronger Families. The program supported families in the community with mental health symptoms and substance abuse challenges. After working at the in-home program, I transitioned to leading a dual diagnosis intensive outpatient group at Lifeline. I continued supporting clients in individual therapy and group therapy.
After learning about the powerful outcomes of EMDR therapy while at Stafford Family Services, I completed EMDR basic training in 2015. The EMDR world allowed me many opportunities to continue to grow my skills and further educate myself on trauma informed care. I became a certified EMDR therapist in 2016. I completed Farnsworth Lobenstine’s 10 month advanced seminar on integrating EMDR therapy and egostate therapy for complex trauma and dissociation in 2017. I do monthly individual and group consultation to grow my skills using EMDR with complex trauma and dissociation. Presently, I am in the process of working towards certification in perinatal mental health disorders through Postpartum Support International.
